WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The 12th-ranked Ouachita Baptist University football team went over 300 rushing yards for the third time this season in a 30-10 road victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
The Tigers (5-1) had two running backs over the 100-yard mark, led by TJ Cole with 28 carries for 193 yards and Kendel Givens with 18 carries for 109 yards and three touchdowns. Givens now has five multi-touchdown games this season, and four games with at least three touchdowns. The freshman from Little Rock now has a nation-leading 15 total touchdowns this season.
Ouachita opened the game with a 10-play, 80-yard drive capped by a 27-yard touchdown run by Givens for the only score by either team in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs (0-6) scored their first points of the game on the first play of the second quarter, which was a 27-yard field goal.
Givens again found the endzone on Ouachita’s next drive, this time from 11 yards away to cap another long drive at nine plays and 75-yards.
SWOSU closed the first-half scoring with their lone touchdown of the game, an 11-yard pass from Jalil Kilpatrick to Torin Justice.
It was all Ouachita in the second half, offensively and defensively. Grant Allen connected with Hunter Swoboda for a 26-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter to put the Tigers up 21-10.
Ouachita’s defense got its second score of the year on a safety in the final minute of the third quarter.
Givens capped his scoring, as well as the game’s scoring, with a five-yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter to cap a five-play, 47-yard drive.
The Tigers are back in action next Saturday, October 16 on the road against Arkansas-Monticello. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. With a win over UAM, Ouachita can secure its 13th consecutive winning regular season.
