Durant, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team struggled to handle the Southeastern Oklahoma State offense in their ninth game of the season Saturday. The Weevils fell behind early and were unable to recover falling 34-14 to the Savage Storm in Durant, Oklahoma.
UAM moves to 4-4 on the season after the loss while OBU improves to 7-2.
The Weevils opening drive didn’t go how they hoped. Being forced to punt in four straight downs. Although they were quick to recover when Kaytron Allen picked a pass from Southeastern. UAM got a second chance but couldn’t break to Savage Storm defense, being forced to punt.
The Storm drove the ball down the field to the UAM 22 yard line, taking up a majority of the first quarter. The weevils held them to 4th down, forcing SEOSU to kick a field goal for the first points of the game. The first quarter with Southeastern on top 3-0.
A turnover on downs was not the way to start the second quarter for the Weevils, but the Storm were quick to take advantage of this. They would score the first touchdown of the contest, taking a 10-0 lead over UAM.
Demilon Brown couldn’t find any answers as the Weevils were forced to punt again. Southeastern followed with an attack of their own, scoring their second touchdown of the game. This would give the Savage Storm a 17-0 lead early in the quarter.
The Weevils were not deterred though as they would drive the ball 83 yards to score their first touchdown of the contest, closing the SEOSU lead to 17-7.
The third quarter started out strong for the SEOSU offense as the Savage Storm drove the ball to the UAM 40. The Weevils would force Southeastern to punt, but could not recover the punt, giving SEOSU the opportunity to score yet again. The rest of the quarter would go to the Home team as the score going into the final quarter was set at 31-7.
The fourth quarter would be won by the Weevils in points, but the UAM offense wasn’t enough to take back the lead from the Storm.
The Weevils ultimately fell 34-14 to move to 4-5 on the season.
Brown carried the load for the UAM offense posting 325 yards of total offense (251 passing / 74 rushing) and accounting for both touchdowns (1 passing / 1 rushing). His favorite targets on the evening were LaCedric Smith and C.J. Parham. Smith finished with six catches for 85 yards and Parham finished with five catches, 80 yards and a score.
Defensively, Kaytron Allen led the Weevils in tackles with 10 and an interception.
