Gloria Nell Butler, 89, of Warren, died December 6, 2021. Born November 29, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Shelby and Virginia Washington. She attended Rosenwald Elementary School and graduated from Bradley County High School. Gloria earned an Elementary Education degree from AM & N College (UAPB). She later received her certification in Library Science from AM & N College. She began her teaching career in Hermitage, Arkansas. After several years, she transitioned to the Warren School District. She served in several capacities in Warren School District which included classroom teacher, librarian, and music teacher.
Gloria served on the Warren School Board for many years, she was a member of AM & N College (UAPB) Alumni Association and she helped people aspiring to earn their GED. Her service also extended into her spiritual life, where she was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church for 70 plus years, serving as musician (starting at age 13), deaconess, Sunday School teacher, president of the Missionary Society, Vacation Bible School Coordinator and Youth Coordinator. She later joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, North Warren.
Gloria was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ira Vern Butler.
She is survived by her daughter, Regina Gant (Bobby) of Little Rock; bonus children, LaFaye Kotz (Dan) of Ellenswood, GA., Dyran Butler (Jennifer) of Wilmar; granddaughter, Courtney Brown (Dorse Jr.) of North Little Rock, bonus granddaughter, Teslyn Butler of Chicago, IL., great grandchildren, Kingston Lee Brown, Nina Rashell Brown; sisters, Alcyon Henderson (Jerome) of Louisville, KY, Helen Easter of Bossier City, LA., Brenda Bass of Bryant, AR; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was December 18 at St. James AME Church in Warren with Rev. Robert L. Cook officiating and Rev. Henry Thomas eulogist. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Warren. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
