David Carter introduced as newly appointed Bradley County JP

WARREN, Ark. – The Bradley County Quorum Court met in regular session Tuesday, February 22, 2022 to conduct monthly business. After calling the meeting to order, County Judge Klay McKinney introduced new Justice of the Peace David Carter. Justice Carter has been appointed to fill out an unexpired term on the Court that runs through December 31, 2022. Justice Carter fills the position of JP District 9. A new Justice will be elected in November to serve the term of 2023-2024.

Prior to regular business being considered, the court was addressed by County Extension Agent-Staff Chair John C. Gavin and County Extension Agent-Family and Consumer Sciences Michelle Carter. They provided information on the past year of the various extension programs conducted within Bradley County during the past year. Programs included educational activities for youth, 4-H, training programs, livestock shows, Jr. Livestock Premium Sale, Farmers Markets, Farm Family selection and a variety of farm and community service projects.

Both Agents thanked the court for their support of Extension work in Bradley County.

After going over monthly reports such as the Treasure’s and Sheriff’s offices, the Judge gave an update on the recent burn ban and progress on repairs to the courthouse bell tower. He indicated the construction work on the tower is making good progress. He stated more work is going to be needed on the Courthouse structure and the clock. The county is applying for yet another grant.

The Quorum then considered and approved ordinance #770 setting up a sub-fund account for use in spending American Rescue fund dollars. Next, the Justices approved ordinance #771 authorizing the financing of a new garbage truck in the amount of $260,657.85 to be paid out over time. First State Bank of Warren is financing the truck at an interest rate of 1.75% over five years. Judge Mckinney told the court it is essential that the public work with the County to properly set out their garbage cans to allow the collection of the trash to be picked up mechanically.
