Lady Jacks pick up first win of the year in comeback home opener

WARREN, Ark. – Warren’s Lady Jack Softball team played their first home game of the season against the Lady Owls of McGehee Tuesday evening, March 1, 2022 by the final of 3-2. The Lady Jacks were looking to pick up their first win of the season after dropping the opening game on the road to Woodlawn.

McGehee scored one run in the second inning and one in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead over the Lady Jacks.

In the bottom of the fifth, Paige Byrd led off the inning with a walk. Anna Grace Bolland then reached base on an error. Byrd scored on a passed ball by the McGehee catcher. Bolland tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Luci Woodard.

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Lady Jack’s Alyssa Higgins had a 1-2-3 seventh inning with a strong defense behind her.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Jacks mounted a two-out rally. Jacy Ashcraft reached base. Kelsy Lovell and Kailey Henry each drew a base on balls to load the bases. Heidi Taulbee drew a base on balls to score Ashcraft for the walk off win.

Luci Woodard went one for three with a double and a sacrifice fly. Zoe Tullos also singled in the fifth inning.

Alyssa Higgins scattered three hits, striking out 15 batters while pitching seven strong innings.

Coach Fielder Dufrene stated how pleased he was with the Lady Jacks’ effort in the comeback win. With the win, the Lady Jacks even their record at 1-1.
