The Hermitage School Board met for their monthly meeting, April 11, 2022. Routine reports were presented by school administrators and the finances were reviewed and approved.
Superintendent Dr. Tucker provided updates on ESSER/ARPA funding and repairs to the Middle School.
In other business the Board approved the following:
- replacing scoreboards as a result of lighting(these are insurance claims)
- purchasing a school vehicle
- new flooring project with ESSER funds (ESSER stands for Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief)
- new heating and air unit for HHS gym using ESSER funds
- three year contract with Mastery Manager for recovering learning loss (program which will allow school to assess student learning and plan instruction to fill in missed gaps)
- extension of FSMC contract with K12 Culinary for 2022-2023
- DESE Sped for 2022-2023
- accepted resignation of Bonnie Halbert
- hired Sara Daniell as a teacher, Kristi Best for child nutrition director and Maddison Vines as a paraprofessional
All votes were unanimous. ARPA funding is in the American Rescue Plan.
A student disciplinary hearing was conducted separate from the board meeting. It concerned a student having set fire to a restroom. Dean Chase Ellis presented the evidence. The board voted to follow the superintendent’s recommendation and expel the student for 365 days. The student cannot be on campus or attend any extra-curricular activities during the time period.
