The Warren Rotary Club met Tuesday, Aug. 9 for their weekly meeting inside the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church. Prior to the program, the new preacher for the Methodist Church, Rev. Dixon Platt received his Rotary Initiation Packet as he was welcomed as a new member to the club. The meeting continued with Rotarian Mark Wargo presenting his program, which was his son Pierce Wargo. Pierce spoke about going through the College Ready Program at Mississippi State University, where he is attending college this fall. This program he participated in allows freshmen to take two college courses during the Summer Session II term in the month of July. Pierce was able to earn college credit for English Composition I and College Algebra. The program had around 200 students and also had special activities planned for the students after class along with tours to help them get acclimated to campus and college life. He explained it was a way to get a head start on the college experience and when he returns to campus in a few weeks he will already know where all the buildings are. Another perk was that it also includes a tuition discount. Pierce answered a few questions the group had to close his presentation.
