Third annual Mrs. Beverly Reep Memorial 5K Run/Walk coming up December 26, $100 prize drawing donated by Union Bank

The third annual Mrs. Beverly Reep Memorial Virtual 5K walk/run is now accepting entries for the event December 26, 2022.

The virtual 5K was established in December of 2020 by Warren High School student India Young. Although Young has since moved on to her collegiate chapter of life at the University of Arkansas, the event has continued, this year under the direction of Warren High School senior Raven Harris.

Once signed up, runners and walkers may take part in the event at their own convenience.

Saline River Chronicle owner and son of late Warren history teacher Beverly Reep, Rob Reep, says that although the event is being held December 26, people are welcome to participate in the days ahead of or following. “This year a blast of cold air is expected to hit the region within days of the walk, but we encourage people to take part by either walking once the weather warms up, or by taking the event indoors on your chosen workout device.”

The virtual 5K is held each December 26 in honor of Mrs. Beverly Reep, who’s career spanned 39 years between multiple school districts, including at Hermitage and Warren. “Christmas was an especially joyous time of year for Mom,” said Rob Reep, “so it’s become a tradition in our family to spend the day after Christmas just going for a walk in her memory.”

There is a $25 entry fee which goes towards The Beverly Reep Memorial Fund. The family says that a project has been chosen, and while the announcement hasn’t been made yet, they hope to begin work on it soon.

“I would love to see this event continue even beyond our current Memorial project for Mom,” said Rob. “Her life’s work was education, so I’m hoping to look for ways to memorialize her work going forward by helping that same cause in some way.”

Once a participant has paid their $25 entry fee, simply post a picture of yourself with the hashtag #sleighedthereep5k on either Facebook or Instagram to be entered for a chance to win a $100 cash prize donated by Union Bank & Trust.
