Since Thursday, February 2, 2023, the Warren Fire Department has answered 4 CO calls. All were potentially dangerous situations.
It appears most CO levels were the result of the utilization of generators being used while the electricity was out.
- Place portable and permanent generators only outdoors in well-ventilated areas away from doors, windows and vents. If necessary make sure doors, windows and vents are well covered while generator is running. This includes vents that access under the structure.
- Have carbon monoxide alarms in your home
- Do not use generators in wet areas. This can cause shock or suffocation
- Connect appliance to the generator with heavy duty extension cords
- Do not fuel generator when it is running. Spilling fuel can cause fire
