WARREN, Ark. – The Warren Lumberjacks baseball squad fell behind early and couldn’t complete a comeback in an 11-4 loss Monday evening to Genoa Central at the Warren Sports Complex.
Warren falls to 1-3 with the nonconference setback, while the Dragons remained undefeated at 6-0. The Lumberjacks, playing their first game in six days because of weather, posted eight hits but left nine men on base.

Genoa Central led off the game with three straight singles to make the score 1-0 and added two more runs in the top of the first to carry a 3-0 lead to the second frame. The visitors tallied another run in the second to move ahead 4-0. The Orange and Black registered two-out hits from Landon Wolfe and Ren Reep in the bottom of the frame, but a strikeout ended the threat.
The Dragons pushed their advantage to 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth before the Jacks cut the deficit in half 6-3. Nathan Spears reached on an error, Kolby Pope singled, and Maddox Lassiter walked to load the bases with no outs. Spears scored on a wild pitch and Delfino Rivera plated two more runs with a double to right-center field.
However, the Jacks wouldn’t get any closer as Genoa Central scored five runs in the sixth and seventh frames to push the score to 11-3. Warren did get a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the final frame from Ervin Rivera to set the final score at 11-4.
Reep started the game on the mound and gave up five runs (four earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Layton Wolfe relieved him and finished the game for Warren. He tossed 4.2 innings in relief and allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits with seven punchouts and three walks. For his efforts Layton Wolfe was named the Greg Harton Shelter Insurance Player of the game.
Offensively, Delfino Rivera led the team with two hits and two RBIs, while Lassiter scored two of the team’s four runs. Spears added a hit and stolen base from the leadoff spot, while Pope scored the team’s other run and also reached base twice with a hit and a walk.
Warren returns to conference play Tuesday evening against Crossett at the Warren Sports Complex. Tomorrow’s first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
