Plans coming together for 2023 Pink Tomato Festival; Kailey Henry wins logo contest

Planning for the 67th annual Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival continued Thursday with committee members and a large crowd in attendance at the District Courtroom.

Chairwoman Kenna Sparks announced Kailey Henry had won the annual logo contest.

On May 20, the festival will kick off with the Tour D’Tomato bicycle event throughout the county, including routes to Hermitage and Johnsville. Randy Rawls is the event chairman. Volunteers are needed for water, fruit and snacks.

The dates of the festival are June 9-10, with several events in the weeks before that. The major entertainment acts will be announced next month.

Volunteers are also needed for aid stations during the 5K run/walk to be held June 10.

Melody Ferguson and Lydia Reynolds said there will be 91 booth spaces available for arts and crafts. Of those, 64 vendors have already confirmed participation. The booths may be expanded to the Emergency Services Building on Cedar Street. The festival is looking at moving the Quilt Show from there to the Donald W. Reynolds YMCA.

Sergio Yepes said he would be doing some fundraisers for Hispanic activities.

Estephany Roman and JeNelle Lipton will work on the parade to be held June 10. Also planned for that day are the All-Tomato Luncheon sponsored by Extension Homemakers at First Baptist Church and the Little Miss Pink Tomato Pageant, chaired by Lipton and Glenda Cross, tentatively set for Immanuel Baptist Church.

The steak cookoff will be moved to the old National Guard Armory. A car show will be held on Main Street after the parade.

Warren Lions Club Gospel Jamboree will be held on June 8, tentatively set for Immanuel Baptist Church.

Junior Miss and Miss Pink Tomato Pageants will be held on June 3 at Hermitage Community Center.

Warren GFWC will have a children’s art show at Bradley County Historical Museum during the festival.

The salsa contest will be held on the courthouse square.
