Re-New-ing Edinburg members collaborate on multiple upcoming projects and events

NEW EDINBURG, Ark. – The members of the New Edinburg Community Center gathered on March 21, 2023, to discuss the progress of their ongoing initiatives to revitalize their town. The meeting, called to order by President Martha Tolano, was attended by 13 members, and they discussed several ongoing programs and upcoming events aimed at revitalizing New Edinburg.

The financial report was presented by Linda Hornaday, the treasurer of the group. The financial statement was passed without any questions or corrections, and it was decided to be filed for an audit.

Martha Tolano gave a report on the Kickstart Banquet held on February 24, where Trenna Kemp was declared the Re-New-ing Edinburg 2022 Volunteer of the Year. The Community Center fish fry held on March 11 was also discussed, and Melody Spears, who organized the event, thanked everyone who attended and helped in making it a success.

The All-School Reunion is scheduled for July 8, and Patricia McClellan is working to finalize the menu for the event with Cathy at the Golden Girls Restaurant. She is also enlisting the help of various students to contact all class members.

The group is also organizing the Spring Fling & Easter Egg Hunt, which is scheduled for April 1 at 10:00 am. The event will include a cake walk, snow cones, and several games. The group will decorate and set up for the event on March 31.

The next game night was rescheduled to Friday, April 28 at 6 pm, instead of the previously scheduled Saturday, April 29.

The group is participating in the Great American cleanup from March 1 through May 31. Each member will be picking up trash, cleaning up from the ice storm, or planting flowers in public areas of the community.

Trenna Kemp attended the quarterly meeting of Kickstart Cleveland County on March 20, where members from each county group gave a report. The New Edinburg Community Center had accrued 295 volunteer hours at the Shae Carson Jamboree, the Kickstart banquet, and the fish fry. Mayor Roberts introduced Mr. Darren Austin, a parks and recreation director from Central Arkansas, who is planning a bicycle race in Cleveland County called “Cruisin” Cleveland County. The race is tentatively set for June.

Finally, the Arkansas Homesteading Conference will be held on March 25 at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds.

The meeting was adjourned with the next meeting scheduled for April 18 at 6 pm. The members of the New Edinburg Community Center are dedicated to revitalizing their town and are working diligently to achieve their goals.
