Verna Heard Ford, 1922-2023

Verna Heard Ford, 101, of Lexington, MS., formerly of Stephens, AR, passed away March 4, 2023. Born February 18, 1922, she was a daughter of the late John L. Heard and Clara Green. 

She accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She received her education in Stephens, AR. She was united in marriage to Garland Ford on January 6, 1947. To this union no children were born.

She was a resident of California for sixty years before moving to Lexington, MS. in 2015 with Elder Theodies Flournoy and his Orlease Flournoy. They were her caregivers for over thirty- five years and also her cousin.

She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Grady Atkins, John Heard Jr., L.T. Heard, Virley Heard, Louis Heard and Oscar Heard.

Verna is survived by her devoted caregivers/cousin Elder Theodies Flournoy (Orlease) of Lexington, MS.; siblings, Leonard Askew, Lecie Hughley (Cliff) both of Prescott, AR.; nieces, Marilyn Ridgell (Walter), Barbara Atkins Howse, Sandra Thomas (James), Francis Finks, Evette Harris (Odell); nephews, Larry Atkins, Dwight Atkins (Sandra); special cousin, Mildred Colen and daughters, Iris Colen, Carla Colen Sparks; great niece, Aaliyah Colen Marshall; Charline Tidwell; longtime friend, Eula Harrison; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held March 4 at Hammons Chapel. Burial was in Union Cemetery. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
