WARREN, Ark. – In a late season non-conference friendly, the Warren Lumberjack Soccer Club defeated Monticello 1-0 at home on senior night at Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium Tuesday evening, April 25, 2023.
Warren’s starting 11 features all ten of the Jacks’ seniors, who all received a fair number of minutes on the night. Since it was a friendly, not only did the match have no playoff implications, but the teams also agreed to reduce each half to just 30 minutes rather than the normal 40.

Lumberjack winger Jose Garcia came really close to giving the Jacks an early lead in just the second minute. His shot from 20 yards out however sailed just high. Cristian Sandoval created some space and had another wonderful chance in the 10th minute with the shot going wide right of goal.
Warren’s defense, including more outstanding play by sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Cortes, shut any chance in the final third Monticello might have had down. The score remained 0-0 at the break.
The match’s lone goal came in the 57th minute when Sandoval was played through on goal. Finding himself one-v-one with the Monticello keeper, he made easy work of the shot to give Warren the 1-0 victory.
The Jacks are now 8-2-2 overall on the season. Since this match was a non-conference friendly, Warren’s finishes their 4A East Conference schedule at 6-0-1. They are the 2023 4A East Conference Champions. The Jacks have cruised to a top 4A State Playoff spot. The 2023 State Playoffs start May 11 at Robinson High School.
