On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Department and SEACBEC’s Criminal Justice presented a prom presentation to Warren High School Juniors and Seniors about safety, making the right choices under peer pressure, understanding the laws, and finally persuading students or their friends not to drink and drive.
Warren School Resource Officer Deputy Jason Wallace, Bradley County Sheriff Chief Deputy Wayne Wesson, Deputy Anthony Gallegos set up and led the discussion and demonstration while SEACBEC’s Criminal Justice Instructor, Jessica Johnson and SEACBEC Director, Devin McDiarmid, assisted with students. All Students went through simulated obstacle courses while wearing vision impairment goggles. Performing the activities twice lets participants experience their performance while unimpaired and then impaired. The goggles cause the wearer to display behaviors that are typical of individuals impaired by alcohol at various BAC levels. Walking a line, standing on one leg, reaching out to grab a set of keys or just walking toe to heel becomes much more difficult under the influence of alcohol. Students were then allowed to drive through an obstacle course to see the consequences of impaired vision and what distractions while driving can cause.
Special thank you to Bradley County Sheriff Herschel Tillman, Kevin Kitchens, Warren School District, and SEACBEC for partnering to make this event happen for the Warren High School Jr’s and Sr’s before going to prom on Friday, April 21, 2023.
Thank y’all for taking the time to teach the young ladies and men .
