The town of Banks helped to secure its future in a big way on Tuesday by passing a 1-cent city sales tax by passing it, 19-2.
“We would like to say thank you to all of our residents for getting out and supporting the special election for a sales tax today. The measure passed ( 19-2) and we look forward to using these funds to expand, improve upon and keep pushing forward for the people of Banks,” said Mayor Keeton Hudson.

“We can only do so much with the resources we have. So many things can be accomplished with this from additional funds for matching grants, city services, expanding the park, hiring a constable, upgrading the community center, plus so many other projects,” he said.
The annual Buck Fever Festival each November draws hundreds of people back in what is essentially a homecoming, but new the sales tax investment is a welcomed influx of revenue.
Recent improvements have included a new fire station under construction, opening a City Hall, food pantry, new street overlays, sewer plant rehabilitation and additional work to the city park. Several water improvement grants have been denied but the additional sales tax funds could open avenues to match grants.

Keeton, baby, there is one business in town. 1 cent is going to be maybe, $75 in extra revenue and the town will lose that from “nah, we can’t shop there, they’re stuff is too high”. Heck, you might be trying to shut them down though since they can’t cook pizza anymore.
I hope you are able to succeed! As a 5th direct descendent of my great great, great grandmother Temperance Rice buried at McLeod & many more at McFarland Cemetery, I hope my grandkids and great grandchildren will be able to come to Banks to see their heritage.
Thank you Mr Hudson!
