Joe Wayne Summerland, 1942-2023

Joe Wayne Summerland, age 81, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, at home. He was born January 7, 1942, in Hamburg, Arkansas, to John William Summerland and Mae Josephine Bond Summerland.

He was employed as a union millwright for 60 years. He moved his family to Mazon, Illinois, in 1966 to raise his children with the hopes of giving them a better education and life and for that his children are forever grateful. He worked in numerous Nuclear Power Plants in Illinois until retiring and then returning home to his farm in Hermitage, Arkansas.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed baling hay, watching his cows, working in his shop and spending time on his farm.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Summerland; brother, Charles (Mildred) Summerland; children, Belinda (Mike) Harr, Brenda Dooley, Betty Jo Summerland, and Jerry (Lisa) Summerland; grandchildren, Brandon (Brittany) Countryman, Matt (Rachael) Harr, Amanda (Myles) Scott-Stirn, Meegan Dooley, Rylee (Ryne) O’Rourke, Mason Dooley, Lauren Dooley, Morgan David and Jace Summerland; and nine great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mae Summerland; sisters, JoAnn and Iva Marie Summerland; brother, Donald Summerland; grandsons, Justin Michael Ralls and Ryan Smith.

Graveside service was held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Antioch Cemetery in Hamburg, Arkansas. All arrangements by Frazer’s Funeral Home in Warren, Arkansas.
