Council members put forward appointments for new Warren Citizens Advisory Committee

Contingent upon full Warren City Council approval, preliminary steps were taken Tuesday to establish a citizens advisory committee.

Mayor Gregg Reep explained to the Community and Economic Development Committee that the group would serve strictly in an advisory capacity to make recommendations on city code violations, including unkempt and overgrown property. The council would make final determinations on action on such properties.

Recommendations on appointees were made by Alderwoman Emily Moseley: Jane Harris and JeNelle Lipton; Alderwoman Dorothy Henderson: Maribeth Frazer and Everett Wallace; Alderwoman Angela Marshall: Beverly Marshall and Dexter Campbell; Alderwoman Latanza Atkins: Arletta Allen and Chris Ogburn; Alderwoman Memory Burks-Frazer: Emily Groves and Patsy Plair; Alderman Joel Tolefree: Nora Pacheco and Billy Joe Harding; and Mayor Gregg Reep: Randall Raney.

The group will meet at 5 p.m. June 27 but the committee won’t be officially appointed until the July 10 City Council meeting.

In other action:

  • Reep said he had been in touch with a few industrial prospects. In regard to a poultry plant, he said a Department of Agriculture consultant would contact possible vendors after the current plant owner provides an inventory of equipment.
  • Bids will be sought on a former Street Department building’s roof.

  1. Why wasn’t the community asked if anyone wanted to be on the committee. Ask for people to submit their names.
