WARREN, Ark. – Warren Street Committee members on Monday made recommendations on street paving to be forwarded to the full City Council next week.
Committee members are Chairwoman Alderwoman Emily Moseley, Alderwoman Latanza Atkins and Alderman Joel Tolefree.
There is $450,000 available for paving this year, with $400,000 of that coming from American Rescue Act funds.

Initially, the committee was set to recommend spending $95,000 for paving on Lynn, Maple and Polk streets.
It was noted that the city has applied for a $300,000 state grant to pave Cemetery, Fullerton and Cook streets. However, that money has not been approved yet and wouldn’t arrive until next year.
Tolefree recommended that the paving funds be distributed equally between the three wards.
Street Foreman Monty Hearnsberger said some repairs have already been made to Maple Street. He said some streets would require culverts before any paving is done.
Other streets to be recommended for paving include Bailey, Hill, Cedar and from Murray Claycomb’s driveway to Gannaway Street in Ward 2 and John C. Moss, Central and Cherry to Bryant to Packard in Ward 3. Tolefree will make recommendations for Ward 1 streets before the council meeting.
In other action, the committee recommended spending up to $70,000 in American Rescue Act funds for a three-quarter-ton pickup truck for the Street Department. Hearnsberger explained the current pickup truck had more than 209,000 miles on it and the proposed pickup could also be used in conjunction with a gooseneck trailer used by the Sanitation Department.
