Re-New-ing Edinburg’s July meeting recap

The following are the full minutes from the recent Re-New-ing Edinburg meeting:

Martha Tolano, President, called the meeting or order and minutes of the July meeting were passed out to those in attendance and also previously emailed.  A correction to the minutes would be a change in the Historic Junk Hunt date from October 5, 6, 7 to October 12, 13, 14 plus the name change of the hunt to Great South AR Hunt by founder Jennifer Via.  Motion made and seconded to accept minutes as presented with the change.  Motion passed.

Motion was made by Trenna Kemp, seconded by Melody Spears, to allow President Tolano and Vice President, Roger McClellan, to swap positions for the remainder of the year.  Motion passed.

Linda Hornaday, treasurer, passed out the financial statement and with no corrections or questions, it will be filed for audit.

Roger McClellan informed the group that eight veterans bricks had been ordered with an additional five to be ordered shortly.  He also informed the groups that the brick cost had increased to $18.50 a piece. His plans are to install bricks in November.

Discussion was held concerning the success of the Back-to-School Splash sponsored by FB&T Bank.  Everyone agreed it was a great success with good attendance, good weather, and lots of fun, food and fellowship.  The two blowups available for different age groups provided a safer event to those attending.  Thanks was expressed to Fordyce Bank and Trust and Ms. Penny Pitchford for sponsoring the event.

Motion was made and seconded to move the NE All School Reunion to April 27, 2024.  This date change should allow the reunion to expand outdoors in order to accommodate more attendees.  Everyone is encouraged to “Save the Date†and make plans to attend.   Various members of the group will also contact caterers for information and pricing prior to the September meeting.

Game night will be held August 18 at 6 p.m.  Those in attendance signed up to bring taco “fixinsâ€, deserts and drinks plus were encouraged to invite people to come and bring their favorite game.

Motion was made by Trenna Kemp, seconded by Martha Talono, to participate in the Great Arkansas Cleanup September 9 through October 31.  Motion passed.

Melody Spears stated she had been contacted about whether Re-New-ing Edinburg would like to volunteer and assist with the activities at the NE school cafeteria.  It was her understanding that the water and electricity had been reconnected and organizers are planning to open the facility for rental.  After discussion concerning the already busy schedule of this group, motion was made by Linda Hornaday, seconded by Don Triplett, to not volunteer at this time.  Motion passed.

Considering the Great South Arkansas Junk Hunt is coming up shortly, everyone is encouraged to contact the community members and begin gathering items for sale as this is the main source of income for Re-New-ing Edinburg and all funds are used for supporting the Easter Egg Hunt, the Fall candy drive through event in October, Christmas decorations plus various other projects throughout the year.

Upcoming event include the Cleveland County Fair September 13-16, Cleveland County Veterans luncheon at the fairgrounds October 28, the Fall candy drive through event October 28, and the Cleveland County Rodeo October 29 & 30.  Motion was made and seconded to adjourn.  Motion passed.
