Benjamin Hugh Reaves, Jr., 1941-2023

Benjamin Hugh Reaves, Jr, age 82 of Texas City, TX and Warren, AR died Thursday, October 12, 2023 peacefully at Chapel Woods Nursing Center. He was born June 5, 1941 in Warren, AR a son of the late Benjamin Hugh Reaves, Sr. and Christine Halligan Reaves. Hugh Reaves was a United States Navy Veteran where he served on the USS Abraham Lincoln. He was a Mason and a 50-plus year veteran in the oil and gas business in Texas City, TX. He spent his career as a machinist and retired as the senior supervisor of the machine shop, working for American Oil Company and Amoco Oil Company. While with Amoco Oil, he was instrumental in getting patents granted to Amoco Oil for his machinist ideas.

Other than his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Rufus Reaves.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Rose Bryant Reaves, whom he married October 17, 1964 in Warren, AR; son, Darren Reaves and spouse Crystal, League City, TX; daughters, Mandy Morton, Texas City, TX and Kim Menchaca and spouse Danny, Georgetown, TX; brother, Team Reaves, Seymour, TN; sisters, Raye Pearce, Morrilton, TX., Rosemary Patton, Clarksville, AR and Kaye Fortenberry, Jackson, MS; five grandchildren, Matthew Beard, Jordin Menchaca, Gunner Morton, Halli Morton and Cortland Reaves. Numerous friends, family and co-workers and a special caregiver and family friend, KeKe Thomas.

Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Tim McCelland officiating. Burial was in the Reaves Family Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home.
