BANKS, Ark. – In a significant moment for the town of Banks, history was made when Nadjada Mason Partman was officially sworn in as the newest member of the Banks City Council during a special session on September 12th. Nadjada’s appointment is particularly notable, as it marks the first time in the town’s history that an African American woman has taken a seat on the City Council since its incorporation in 1927.
The vacancy Nadjada filled on the City Council, designated as position number 5, had been left open since January. The appointment came following a nomination by Mayor Keeton Hudson, who had a specific vision for the individual who would fill this role.
Mayor Hudson sought a candidate who embodied youth, community involvement, and a commitment to working collaboratively within the council to enhance the quality of life in Banks. Nadjada Mason Partman emerged as the ideal choice, ticking all the boxes set by Mayor Hudson.

Nadjada, a resident of Banks for over two decades, is not only a dedicated mother to her daughter Mariah Partman but also an active member of the community. Her roots in Banks run deep, as she is the daughter of Rev. Joe and Mrs. Faye Mason, with family ties connecting her to the late Joe and Lezonia Mason of Banks and the late Lawrence and Louise Rowlett of Monticello.
Her qualifications go beyond her community involvement. Nadjada holds a dental assistant license from the University of Maryland in Manheim, Germany, a cosmetology license from PCEC in El Dorado, AR, EMT certification from SEARK College in Pine Bluff, AR, and a phlebotomist license from SOUTHARK College in El Dorado, AR. These certifications, alongside her commitment to the community, make her a well-rounded addition to the Banks City Council.
In her spare time, Nadjada serves as a member of the Junior Auxiliary, a cheerleading coach, and a dedicated volunteer for Buck Fever. Her involvement in these roles showcases her passion for uplifting the community and helping it prosper.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on September 12th, was a symbolic moment for both Nadjada Mason Partman and the town of Banks. She was administered the oath of office by Banks’ City Treasurer/Recorder, Mrs. Leah Via, in a ceremony that brought together residents, local officials, and well-wishers to celebrate this historic milestone.
