High Stakes Clash:

Before the game, the stakes were high for both teams. The Lumberjacks entered the contest with an impressive 5-0 record, looking to further their pursuit of another 8-4A Conference title. On the other side, the Dumas Bobcats arrived in Warren with a 3-2 overall record, but a crucial 1-2 standing in Conference 8-4A. The Bobcats needed a win to improve their playoff hopes moving forward, though facing the Lumberjacks at the fortress that is Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium proved to be a difficult task.

First Quarter Standoff:

The game kicked off with Warren kicking off to Dumas, and the Lumberjacks’ special teams showcased their skills with a solid bit of downfield coverage led by Braden Smith. Dumas began their opening drive from their own 18-yard line but were quickly pushed back due to a holding penalty. Despite a promising pass play opportunity on third down, Dumas was ultimately forced to punt.

Warren seized the opportunity, starting their drive from the Dumas 42-yard line. A 15-yard rush by T. Jackson set the tone, with a horse-collar penalty against Dumas adding to the yardage. However, the Bobcats’ defense held strong, denying the Lumberjacks a touchdown. Warren turned the ball over on downs deep in Bobcat territory.

Dumas struggled to advance on their next possession, with the Lumberjacks’ Cody Weatherspoon recording a crucial sack. Antonio Jordan’s open-field tackle further hampered the Bobcats’ progress. Jordan would team up with fellow Jack Trestane Greene on third down to record another sack. Dumas was forced to punt once again.

However, Warren’s offensive struggles continued. The Jacks kicked it right back to their delta opponents minutes later. Antonio Jordan punt pinned the Bobcats back at their own 3-yard line. On the next play, a bad snap and quite a bit of heat from Warren’s Jordyn Ingram forced Dumas’s quarterback Jones to lose control of the ball out of the back of the end zone for a safety. The Lumberjacks had the first lead of the night at 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Warren had a chance to extend their lead in the final minutes of the half, but a tipped pass resulted in an interception by Dumas at their own 34-yard line with just 1:20 remaining. The halftime score stood at Warren 8, Dumas 0.
