The following are the minutes of the September 2023 Re-New-ing Edinburg Meeting.
Roger McClellan, President, called the meeting to order and stated that the minutes of the August meeting were previously emailed to members. A correction to those minutes were that the Cleveland County Rodeo is September 29-30 rather than the stated October 29-30. Motion was made by Larry Waldrop, seconded by Don Triplett to accept minutes with the correction. Motion passed. The financial statement was presented, discussed and will be filed for audit.
Roger informed the group that he had received eight bricks for the veteran’s park plus another seven on order. Once the seven are received and the weather cools down, all fifteen will be installed. He also purchased a 5’x8’ American flag for the park plus a 30’ expandable pole which will be used to untangle the flag from the Eagle. Motion was made and seconded to reimburse him $170.24 for those expenditures.
The group was reminded that the All-School Reunion has been scheduled for April 27, 2024 with a possible menu of fish, chicken, fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw, tea, water plus condiments for approximately 125-175. Roger contacted Dorey’s Catfish Catering, Abe’s Old Feed House and Leon’s Catfish for prices to cater the reunion. Motion was made to accept Dorey’s which was the better value for the meal. Motion passed.

Thanks were expressed to all who participated in making the August 18th game night a success. With the fall season so busy for the group, another game night was not scheduled.
The group will begin participating in the Great American cleanup October 1 through October 31. Garbage bags and t-shirts should be received shortly and will be passed out once received.
The Great South AR Junk Hunt will be held October 12, 13, and 14. Motion was made and seconded to schedule a workday for Thursday, October 5 at 8 a.m. Motion passed.
Roger thanked everyone who participated or served as a fair superintendent for the Cleveland County Fair. Exhibitors and exhibits were slightly up over last year, however, he encouraged everyone to participate next year as the fair association is working to get back to the number of exhibitors/exhibits as the years prior to the COVID.
The New Edinburg Community Center barbecue fundraiser will be held September 30 at 5:00 p.m. Melody Spears said that Tim Taylor, who sings country and gospel music, will be performing. If weather permits, the event will be held outside so everyone is encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
Roger reminded the group that the Cleveland County Veterans appreciation luncheon will be held October 28 at noon with guest speaker, MG John Stubbs, The Adjunct General of the Arkansas National Guard. A veteran plus one guest is free and anyone else can purchase a plate for $15. Since Dorey’s Catfish is catering the event, it would be a good way for members to eat plus observe and taste Dorey’s catering prior to the All-School Reunion.
Also, on October 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Fall Festival Candy event will be held at the NE Community Center. Discussion was held concerning the event.
The Kickstart Cleveland County group is requesting each group to donate $50 to the East Lab at the Rison School. The East Lab is volunteering to assist all county groups with promotional flyers, videos, printing, etc. Motion was made by Martha Talono, seconded by Larry Waldrop, to donate the $50. Motion passed.
Patricia McClellan passed out the promotional brochures for the Camden Expedition and made a motion that the group purchase 200 at $ .30 each. Larry Waldrop seconded the motion and the motion passed.
The Johnny & June Cash chili supper will be held at Kingsland on October 28. Don Triplett made a motion to adjourn, seconded by David Kemp. Motion passed. The next meeting will be held October 17 at 6 p.m.
