MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Monticello Country Club played host to an exhilarating day of junior golf on Sunday, as promising young talents from the surrounding country clubs converged for the Junior Club Championship.
This year the Club opened its doors to junior members from neighboring country clubs, giving them a chance to compete in the Individual Stroke Play Championship.
Carson Slaughter, representing Warren, emerged as the Monticello Country Club Individual Stroke Play Champion, carding an impressive 35 through 9 holes, securing an even-par score.
It was the host club’s very own Parker Hill who ultimately claimed the coveted Junior Club title.
The Junior Club Championship saw a playoff, as Parker Hill found himself in a duel with Warren’s Rhett Clanton. Both Hill and Clanton had tied with scores of 37, finishing just two over par, and the playoff hole was the stage for their showdown. After a tense and thrilling extra hole, Hill managed to edge out Clanton to secure the Junior Club Championship.
Clanton might not have clinched the Junior Club Championship, but his impressive performance in the Individual Stroke Play Championship earned him the title of runner-up in that category.
In a parallel competition for the younger golfers, Rett McGaha was crowned the overall Individual Stroke Play winner for those aged 13 and under.
