Fast paced Jacks give no rest to Dermott in first win of the season

DUMAS, Ark. – In a thrilling matchup at the Dumas Holiday Classic on Saturday evening, the Warren Lumberjacks emerged victorious with a 63-53 win over Dermott, thanks to a standout performance from junior point guard Tramond Miller. Miller’s stellar play earned him the well-deserved title of MVP for the game.

The opening quarter set the tone for Warren’s success, with Miller making an immediate impact. He confidently knocked down a three-pointer to put Warren on the board first and followed it up with an impressive assist to Antonio Jordan for a slam dunk. Miller closed out the quarter with several breakaways, contributing significantly to the Lumberjacks’ 25-12 lead.

The second quarter saw a bit of an offensive drought for both teams, but Miller remained a crucial asset for Warren, adding 8 points to help the team enter halftime with a comfortable 33-22 lead.

As the game progressed into the third quarter, Antonio Jordan got back on the board with a three-pointer, while Miller continued to torment Dermott with an additional six points. The Lumberjacks maintained control, heading into the final quarter with a solid lead.

In the fourth quarter, Warren faced some foul trouble, and Dermott applied a full-court press. However, Bleyze Fellows came through late on, draining a big three-pointer from the corner with 1:12 left on the clock. In the closing moments, Miller’s steal and assist to Cam Burks in transition sealed the victory for Warren with a final score of 63-53.

Following the game, Warren Coach Joseph Anders expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. “The first quarter was the pace we are building towards,” he said. “Clearly, we are not in basketball shape yet,” but “love the team energy.”

The win brings Warren’s season record to 1-1, and they will enjoy a holiday break before hitting the road to face Monticello on January 2.
