Lumberjack Women fight hard but fall short in home opener vs. Stuttgart

In a hard-fought home opener, the Warren Lumberjack Women’s Basketball team showed grit and determination against the Stuttgart Ricebirds but unfortunately came up short with a final score of 65-56.

1st Quarter: A Strong Start

The game began with a promising start for the Lumberjacks as Breize Fellows opened the scoring with an impressive play in the interior. Bailer Miller put up four points in the opening quarter. The teams remained neck-and-neck, ending the first quarter tied at 13-13.

2nd Quarter: Defensive Efforts and Three-Point Challenge

Bailey Miller continued her excellent play from the first period, making a huge defensive block in the early minutes of the second. However, Stuttgart found success beyond the arc, leading to a 32-23 deficit for Warren at halftime.

3rd Quarter: Battling Adversity

Despite a couple of unforced turnovers, the Lumberjacks showed resilience. Charlee Wardlaw’s deep three and successful free throw kept the orange and black in the hunt, but they still trailed 50-37 entering the final quarter.

4th Quarter: Fighting to the End

Warren didn’t go down without a fight, cutting the deficit to a 9-point game with 3:36 remaining. However, the Ricebirds held their ground, securing the victory with a final score of 65-56. Despite the loss, the Lumberjacks set a season-high point record, surpassing their previous best by a full 10 points.

The Warren Women now hold a 1-7 overall record and a 0-2 record in Conference 8-4A. Looking ahead, they will hit the road to face Crossett on Tuesday, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
