Mary Helen (Smith) McCaskill, 1932-2024

Mary Helen (Smith) McCaskill, age 91 of Warren passed away Sunday January 28, 2024. She was born December, 2, 1932, in Banks, AR to the late Chester Smith and Cozy Mae Brown Smith. Mary Helen graduated nursing school from St. Vincent’s Infirmary in Little Rock, AR, in 1954. She worked as an OB and an ER nurse. She was a Bradley County Health Department Administrator and an active lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church. Mary had a weekly radio talk show about health. She was awarded Citizen of the Year.  She helped anyone in need in any way she could, day or night. She was also a very animated narrator, reading not only to her grandchildren but also to the community.

Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee (Buddy) McCaskill. Brothers Travis Jackson Smith, Rex Wade Smith, and Teddy Dane Smith. Sisters Noma Marie Smith Nixon and Cozy Mae Smith Kidwell.

She is survived by her daughters Donna Smith of Wynne, AR, and Cheryl McCaskill of Warren, AR. Three grandchildren Sunne (Stephen) Moore, Jill (Chris) Davis, and Robin (Bart) Fowler; and eleven great-grandchildren. Brother Coy Smith of Monticello, AR, and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church. Burial was held in Oakland Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Frazer’s Funeral Home.
