WARREN, Ark. – In a heartwarming tribute to nature’s beauty and the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship, the Warren Woman’s Club organized a memorable Arbor Day tree planting event on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Warren Elementary School in Warren, Arkansas.
Arbor Day, a tradition dating back to 1872, holds a special place in American culture as a day dedicated to planting and caring for trees. Originating in Nebraska, Arbor Day has since spread across the nation, embodying the spirit of conservation and sustainability.
The ceremony, graced by esteemed guests and community leaders, witnessed the presence of notable individuals from the Warren Woman’s Club, including JeNelle Lipton, Judy Gibson (President), Terrie White, Jonalyn Reep, Sandra Gatling, Diane Parnell, Jan McLemore, and Jennifer Taylor.
Pastor Jamie Rochell set a reflective tone with a solemn invocation, underscoring the significance of preserving our natural heritage. Superintendent Bryan Cornish, State Representative Jeff Wardlaw, and Warren Mayor Gregg Reep added their voices to the occasion, emphasizing the vital role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and enhancing the quality of life in Warren. Mayor Reep made a proclamation honoring April 26, 2024 as Arbor Day in Warren.
A pivotal moment of the ceremony came when Mark Vickers of the Arkansas Forestry Commission presented a majestic Red Maple tree, symbolizing growth, resilience, and unity. This symbolic gesture marked the official tree planting, a tangible reminder of the community’s pledge to nurture and protect the environment for generations to come.
Adding a touch of youthful enthusiasm, three students eloquently spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of trees in providing oxygen, shelter for wildlife, and a serene backdrop for outdoor activities. Warren Elementary students then assisted in the planting of the Red Maple tree.
