The Lumberjacks record is now 15-8 as the team will be the fourth seed out of the 4A South Region in next week’s state tournament. Crossett (19-8) will be the third seed, while Magnolia defeated Monticello 5-4 in the championship game to round out the results of the 4A South Regional Tournament.

All of the game’s seven runs came in the first two innings as Warren’s Nathan Spears belted a two-run homer to left field in the top of the first to open the scoring. However, the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the opening frame to take a 3-2 lead with the help of a pair of errors. Crossett extended the lead to 5-2 in the second inning after the first two batters reached and came around to score.

The Orange and Black’s best scoring chance the rest of the game came in the top of the sixth inning when Ren Reep and AJ Jordan hit singles to begin the frame. Harley White walked after a strikeout to load the bases, but a double play ended the threat. The Lumberjacks put two runners on in the seventh, but couldn’t score as Crossett earned the 5-2 win.

Reep went the distance on the mound for Warren and pitched well as he allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits with no strikeouts and two walks in six innings. The sophomore didn’t allow a hit after the first two innings and only three baserunners during his final four innings on the mound.

Spears led the offensive effort as he wasn’t retired in four plate appearances. The junior was 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs and also reached on a walk and hit-by-pitch. Kolby Pope, Ervin Rivera, Jackson Denton, Reep, and Jordan had the other hits, all singles, for Warren.

Warren advances to play in the 4A State Tournament on Thursday, May 9. According to the bracket on scorebooklive.com the Lumberjacks will play the second seed from the 4A North Region at 3 p.m. next Thursday.
