In a heartfelt request to the community, Chris Helms of the Hermitage Youth Sports Program announced a call for parents and guardians to help revive the local youth football program. The program has faced significant challenges in recent years, struggling to regain its footing post-pandemic due to low participation numbers.
In a statement released today, Helms expressed the determination of both the Hermitage Youth Sports Program board and Hermitage Schools to reinvigorate quality athletic programs for the youth. “In the years since the pandemic, our youth football program has had a tough time getting back off the ground due to low numbers,” Helms said. “We are struggling again this season and need your help, parents.”
Currently, the program has just enough players for a 2nd-4th grade team but could use a few more participants. The 5th and 6th grade team, however, is in need of additional players to round out the roster. In response to these challenges, the sign-up deadline for tackle football has been extended to Friday, July 26th.
Helms emphasized the importance of community involvement in restoring the tradition of football in Hermitage. “Parents, please encourage your kids to come out and be a part of this rich tradition and just have some fun,” he urged.
Notably, participation in the program is not limited to students attending Hermitage Schools. Helms extended an invitation to any interested child, highlighting that financial concerns regarding uniform costs could be addressed through potential sponsorships. “If you know of a child that missed the current deadline somewhere else, let them know they can still be a part of it!” he added.
Forms for sign-ups can be picked up and dropped off at the Hermitage Elementary Principal’s office. The program’s leadership remains committed to ensuring that every child in the community has the opportunity to participate and enjoy the game.
“Let’s bring FOOTBALL SATURDAY back to Hermitage!” Helms concluded. “Thanks as always for your support!”
The Hermitage Youth Sports Program and Hermitage Schools are hopeful that with the community’s support, they can revive and sustain the vibrant football tradition that has long been a staple of the local sports culture.
