TYLER, TX – Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green has been named to the 2024 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, the Tyler Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler announced on Wednesday.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also meets one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or current playing at a Texas Division I four-year college.
Green arrives in Fayetteville after spending the 2021-23 seasons at Boise State, where he made 22 starts over the past two seasons, completing 287 of 483 passes (59%) for 3,794 yards and 25 touchdowns. On the ground, Green rushed for 1,024 yards and 19 touchdowns on 164 carries, averaging 6.2 yards a carry.
The watch list will be narrowed down to 16 semifinalists in November and then to five finalists in December. The finalists will be brought to Tyler, Texas, for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet in January.
In 2024, Green completed 121-of-212 passes (57.1%) for 1,752 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 436 yards and nine touchdowns on 78 carries. The Lewisville, Texas native was named Offensive MVP of the 2023 Mountain West Championship game after completing 12-15 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 90 yards and two scores on eight carries.
The award is named in honor of Earl Campbell, who graduated from John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas, before playing at Texas. In his senior season, Campbell led the nation with 1,744 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, becoming Texas’ first Heisman Trophy winner. He was drafted by the Houston Oilers, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors in 1978 and went on to lead the NFL in rushing three times. Campbell earned NFL MVP in 1979 and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991.
