DeWitt Dominates CAC 31-7 in Season Opener

DeWITT, Ark. – The DeWitt Dragons kicked off their 2024 football season with a commanding 31-7 victory over Central Arkansas Christian (CAC) on Friday night, showcasing a powerful performance on both sides of the ball.

The game started slow, with both teams unable to find the end zone in the first quarter. DeWitt finally broke the deadlock early in the second quarter when Wyatt Womack nailed a 31-yard field goal, giving the Dragons a 3-0 lead with 10:37 remaining before halftime. The defensive struggle continued, and that score held as both teams headed to the locker rooms.

The Dragons came out strong in the second half. With 6:54 left in the third quarter, Korri Graham found the end zone with a seven-yard touchdown run off the left tackle, followed by his own successful two-point conversion, extending DeWitt’s lead to 11-0.

DeWitt quarterback Justin Ross added to the lead later in the quarter, connecting with a wide-open JJ Daniels for a 15-yard touchdown pass. Womack’s extra point was good, pushing the Dragons ahead 18-0 with 3:53 left in the third.

CAC responded with their only score of the night, a 39-yard touchdown scramble by quarterback Connor Taylor. The Mustangs cut the deficit to 18-7 after the extra point, but DeWitt quickly regained control.

Korri Graham continued his strong performance with another rushing touchdown, this time from 14 yards out, late in the third quarter. Though the extra point attempt failed, DeWitt entered the fourth quarter with a comfortable 24-7 lead.

The Dragons sealed the victory in the final quarter when Griffin Whitmore took a speed sweep 23 yards for the game’s final touchdown. Womack’s extra point made it 31-7, capping off a dominant season-opening win for DeWitt.

The Dragons will have a bye next week before hitting the road to face Jacksonville on September 13.
