James E. “Jimmy” Shipp, 1947-2024

James E. “Jimmy†Shipp, 77, of Ethel formerly of Warren, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Tabernacle Cemetery in Ethel, Mississippi. Rev. Matt Steed is officiating the service. 

Coach Shipp was born January 6, 1947, to Dorothy Shipp in Durant, Mississippi. Coach Shipp served his country in the Mississippi National Guard.  He taught and coached for 31 years at various schools throughout his career. He started the football program at Caddo Hills High School in Norman, Arkansas and a member of the Arkansas Activities Association.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Judy Shipp of Ethel, Mississippi; son, Jimmy Shipp (Christy Simpson) of Monticello, Arkansas; grandchildren, Holden Shipp, Marcus (Cassie) Shipp, and Jacob Shipp; brother, Elgene Barnett of Louisiana; sister, Sharon Barnett of Louisiana; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Shipp, grandparents, who raised him, Oscar Proctor and Gertrude Shipp, and a son, Samuel Bartow Shipp. 

Serving as pallbearers are Zack Rone, John Caden Rone, Rowdy Rone, Brian Rone, John McCrory, and Roy McCrory. Serving as honorary pallbearers are all the coaches he was affiliated with.
