Lightning Strike Sparks Tree Fire in Banks

BANKS, Ark. – The Banks Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a tree fire early Sunday morning, following a call from a deer hunter. The fire, located off County Road 378 on the Hooks Moro Lease, was reported at approximately 8:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, the fire department assessed the situation and determined that due to the remote location and challenging conditions, additional assistance would be required. The Arkansas Forestry Division was called in to help manage the situation. Forestry crews successfully felled the affected trees and plowed a perimeter around the fire to prevent it from spreading further.

Preliminary reports indicate that the tree was likely struck by lightning on Friday evening, which caused it to smolder and eventually ignite surrounding vegetation. The fire department and forestry crews worked efficiently to contain the fire, preventing it from causing more extensive damage in the area.

The Town of Banks was appreciative for the swift response from both the fire department and the Arkansas Forestry Division in handling this potentially dangerous situation. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the fire was successfully contained without further incident.
