STAR CITY, Ark. – The Warren Lumberjack tennis team traveled to Star City for what proved to be their toughest match of the season so far. Despite competitive efforts, the Lumberjacks struggled to finish strong, with Star City coming out on top in most matchups. Head Coach Micah Richey viewed the experience as a valuable lesson for his players.
“We struggled to finish matches yesterday. We had several really good matches, but fell short when it came to winning points,” said Richey. “While I was not happy with the outcome, I think a lot of the kids learned a lot from playing against better players.”
Richey praised Star City’s program and noted the importance of the match for his team’s development. “I was really impressed with Star City’s program. I think it opened some eyes on what we need to do as a program to take our skills that we have to the next level and to succeed.”
The matchup also provided key opportunities for Warren’s less-experienced players to gain valuable experience. “It was especially good, due to the amount of players they had, for our beginners that are not in the ranked category to get several matches in and gain some experience,” Richey added.
