RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Ouachita Baptist University’s Carter McElhany has been selected as the Great American Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

McElhany needed only one play on special teams to make his mark in last Thursday night’s 56-2 road win over Northwestern Oklahoma State.

The 2023 Great American Conference Freshman of the Year ignited a second half rout by taking the opening kickoff of the third quarter 100 yards for a touchdown. It was Ouachita’s first 100-yard kickoff return in the GAC era.

For McElhany, it was his second career kickoff return for a touchdown. Last season on the road against Arkansas-Monticello, the Greenbrier native had a 94-yard return for a score. He is now a three-time GAC weekly award winner for special teams for his career.

So far this season through two games, McElhany leads the GAC and ranks fourth in the nation with an average of 49 yards per kickoff return.

McElhany and the Tigers are back on the road this weekend to face off against Southern Arkansas in a battle of 2-0 teams. Kickoff this Saturday is set for 6 p.m. in Magnolia.
