Pine Bluff Man Fatally Struck While Flagging Traffic on Saline River Bridge in Cleveland County

RISON, Ark. – A tragic accident on U.S. Highway 79 at the Saline River bridge southwest of Rison claimed the life of a Pine Bluff man on September 9, 2024. Ulyess Chandler Jr., 65, was struck and killed while working as a flagger for a construction project on the bridge in Cleveland County.

According to the Arkansas State Police accident report, the incident occurred around 3:05 PM. Chandler was flagging traffic in the southbound lane when a 1999 Chevy Silverado, traveling southbound on Highway 79, struck him. Chandler was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Dallas County Morgue.

The driver of the Silverado was not injured, and no additional injuries were reported. Weather conditions were clear at the time of the accident, and road conditions were dry.
