NEW EDINBURG, Ark. – The Re-New-ing Edinburg community organization gathered on September 16, 2024, at the New Edinburg Community Center for their monthly meeting, discussing upcoming events and community matters. The meeting was called to order by President Roger McClellan, who welcomed attendees and shared the agenda for the evening.
Minutes and Financial Report
The minutes from the August meeting had been previously emailed to members but were also distributed during the meeting for review. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Trenna Kemp and seconded by Melody Spears, which passed unanimously.
In the absence of Treasurer Linda Hornaday, Roger McClellan provided a brief overview of the financial statement, which was handed out to those in attendance. He mentioned recent repairs made to one of the swings at the community center by himself, David Kemp, and Dean Bowen, noting that while the repairs were complete, reimbursement for expenses was still pending. Additionally, McClellan purchased a new POW flag, although he had not requested reimbursement for that purchase.
McClellan also reported that pre-sales of items for the upcoming “Junk Hunt” had already generated $320, with some of those funds deposited. The financial statement will be filed for audit.
Cleveland County Fair Success
As a member of the Cleveland County Fair board, McClellan expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in the fair, held the previous week. He thanked the group for sponsoring the $100 Junior Exhibitors drawing. The fair saw a 25% increase in exhibits over 2023, with several New Edinburg residents recognized for their contributions. Six “Best of Show” ribbons and two honorable mentions were awarded to New Edinburg participants, along with numerous blue ribbons.
McClellan also congratulated local residents Luis Talono and Diana Watts for winning door prizes at the event. Watts, a member of the Cleveland County Cattlemen’s Association, had a booth at the fair as well.
