MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team will open its 2024 campaign against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Sept. 5. The Boll Weevils host the Rangers for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium.

Coming off a heartbreaking 60-17 loss on the road to school rival Southern Arkansas in the Battle of the Timberlands to conclude their 2023 season, the Weevils are hungry for a fresh start and new beginnings as they look towards the upcoming opener with the Rangers.
“We are excited about this week,” said Head Coach Hud Jackson. “I know our players are ready to go up against the very strong opponent, instead of beating each other up each day. We hope that we have a great crowd for our opening game and look forward to an exciting night. Eat ’em up.”

THE MATCHUP
The University of Arkansas at Monticello Football team is hosting NWOSU tomorrow at Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium for the 2024 season opener.
LAST MEETING
Arkansas-Monticello defeated NWOSU 49-24 on the road in 2023. The Boll Weevils passed for 500 yards of total offense, recording six touchdowns in that contest. Demilon Brown led the air attack, connecting with Nick Howard for three touchdowns and Isaiah Cross for a fourth. Brown and Hayden Thomas each rushed for a touchdown. Zachary Grisotti led in extra-point attempts, going 5-5.
All-TIME SERIES
UAM leads the all-time series, 7-6. The Boll Weevils are 3-3 at home against the Rangers, going 1-2 in Monticello over the last decade. The largest margin of victory for the Weevils came during the 2023 season with a 49-24 win. The Weevils average 33.31 points against the Rangers.
PRESEASON NOTES
The Boll Weevils return 36 lettermen from the 2023 season including 16 starters for a team that finished the season 2-9. Among the returning starters is quarterback Demilon Brown, returning for a 5th season with UAM. Monticello finished sixth in the GAC in scoring and total offense averaging 23.8 points per contest and 333.7 yards of offense per game. The Boll Weevils landed seventh in the conference in rushing, posting 101.5 yards on the ground per game. Defensively, UAM ranked tenth in total defense surrending 407.3 yards per contest, and tenth in scoring defense, allowing 36.5 points per game. Offensively, senior running back Gary Ferman led the running game, averaging 40.14 yards a contest. Isaiah Cross and Nick Howard were the top two targets in the receiving game for UAM, combining for 914 yards and seven touchdowns.

ON-FIELD ACCESS
Authorized UAM personnel and stand-by medical staff are the only ones with on-field access during the Weevil Football games. All other unauthorized personnel are required to stay within the stands. The following are prohibited at Willis “Convoy” Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium:

RESTROOMS
Restrooms for all fans are on the opposite side of the UAM Indoor Practice Facility as the field. There are also portable bathrooms behind the UAM student section on the south side of the home stands.
