The following are the minutes from the October 14, 2024 Re-New-ing Edinburg Meeting:
Roger McClellan, President, welcomed those in attendance and called the meeting to order. The minutes of the September meeting were distributed to those present. Motion was made by Trenna Kemp, seconded by Melody Spears, to accept the minutes as presented.
Linda Hornaday, Treasurer, passed out the financial statement and after a brief discussion it will be filed for audit.
Roger thanked everyone for their hard work during the junk hunt and also everyone who donated to Re-New-ing Edinburg. Linda informed everyone that this was the seventh year for the group to participate and this was the second most profitable fall hunt only behind 2023. This group accumulated 258.5 volunteer hours during the week. The 2025 spring junk hunt has been designated as April 3, 4, 5 and 6 and the fall has been moved to October 23, 24, 25, and 26. The fall date will be a conflict for those who volunteer for the Cleveland County Veterans luncheon held on the last Saturday of October and could potentially conflict with the fall festival traditionally held the Saturday before Halloween. In 2025, Halloween will fall on Friday and Trenna Kemp made a motion to hold next year’s fall festival on Friday, October 31, seconded by David Kemp. Motion passed.
The fall festival drive thru candy event will be held at the community center on Saturday, October 26 from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Roger advised the group that the New Edinburg Volunteer Fire Dept will be parked at the front entrance of the center helping to direct traffic and passing out fire safety coloring books. After discussion, the group decided to meet at 9 a.m., Thursday, October 24, to begin decorating and if necessary, work again Friday morning. Motion was made by Patricia McClellan, seconded by Melody Spears, to spent $500 for the event.
Roger reminded everyone that the Great American Cleanup continues through October 31 so everyone is encouraged to continue local trash pickup.
Melody Spears gave a report on the community center’s barbecue fundraiser which was held Saturday, October 15. Everyone who attended enjoyed the great barbecue and the music by Tim Taylor.
November 15 at 6 p.m. is the next scheduled game night at the community center. Trenna suggested bringing finger foods and drinks. Everyone is encouraged to invite someone. The Cleveland County Veterans luncheon will be held Saturday, October 26 at noon at the fairgrounds. Dorey’s Catfish will be providing food. Santa will be visiting the New Edinburg Community Center on December 20 and 21.
Motion was made and seconded to adjourn. Motion passed. The next and last meeting of 2024 will be held on Tuesday, November 19.
