Lumberjacks Secure Top Playoff Position, Aim for Outright Conference Title Next Week

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. – The Warren Lumberjacks clinched the top seed from the 8-4A Conference with an emphatic 57-22 victory over Central High School of Helena-West Helena on Friday night, November 1, 2024. A balanced offensive attack and a staunch defense propelled Warren to the win, improving their record to 7-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

Warren wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as quarterback Cam Burks connected with Neon’dre Thomas for a 55-yard touchdown pass just 21 seconds into the game. Jacarlos Marquez’s extra point was good, putting Warren up 7-0. Shortly after, Warren’s Jakendric Burks intercepted a pass, setting up a quick 15-yard touchdown pass from Burks to Tramond Miller, pushing the lead to 14-0.

A 30-yard screen pass touchdown from Burks to Antonio Jordan extended Warren’s lead to 20-0 before a late first-quarter fumble was returned 80 yards by Helena for a touchdown, narrowing the margin to 20-8.

Early in the second quarter, Jordan returned the kickoff 68 yards for a touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion, giving Warren a 28-8 advantage. Despite Helena’s response with a touchdown run, Warren continued to pull away, as Miller, stepping in at quarterback after Burks was injured, scored on a 38-yard run, putting the Lumberjacks up 36-16 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Warren’s ground game dominated, highlighted by Aaron Davis’s 55-yard touchdown run, followed by a 34-yard scoring burst from Braeden Smith. An interception by Josiah Steen also stalled Helena’s momentum.

Miller capped Warren’s scoring with a 69-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, securing the Lumberjacks’ lead at 57-16 before a late Helena consolation touchdown brought the final to 57-22.

Warren showcased impressive stats with 324 rushing yards and 214 passing yards, totaling 538 yards of offense. Key performances included:

  • Rushing: Tramond Miller led with 159 yards on 4 carries and 2 touchdowns, while Aaron Davis added 111 yards and a touchdown.
  • Passing: Cam Burks completed 6 of 10 passes for 183 yards and 3 touchdowns.
  • Receiving: Antonio Jordan led with 86 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Tramond Miller added 53 yards and a touchdown catch.

With the win, Warren remains undefeated in conference play. A victory over Crossett next Thursday, November 7, would crown the Lumberjacks as outright champions of Conference 8-4A, cementing their dominant season. Central, meanwhile, will travel to Star City for their regular-season finale.
