MONTICELLO, Ark. – UAM’s Men’s Basketball team (3-2) is set to take on the Statesmen (3-2) of Delta State University on Tuesday, November 26 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Walter Sillers Coliseum in Cleveland, Mississippi. This will be the last non-conference game for the Boll Weevils before they begin GAC play on December 3rd versus Southern Nazarene.
“Delta State is off to a good start,” said Head Coach Chad Tapp. ” They are well coached and hard to guard. Winning on the road is always tough, We are looking forward to the chance to get better, going into a tough environment.”

Delta State University – The Weevils walked out of Cleveland with a 72-56 win over the Statesmen the last time they met on December 9, 2017. The non-conference match-up was closely contested to open up the first half of play, until a pair of made three-pointers from Keelin Jackson, and a fast-break layup from Karim Mawuenyega saw UAM out to a 20-13 lead with 09:29 remaining. The Weevils continued to create a run over the Statesmen to hold the 39-24 advantage at the half. Arkansas-Monticello ended the opening half shooting 50 percent overall, along with forcing nine DSU turnovers. UAM continued to dominate in the second half over Delta State, as the Weevils saw its lead stay in double-digits throughout its entirety, claiming the victory at 72-56. Tyrin Jones had a big second half as well, scoring 13 total points, and shooting 5-for-8 from the field.

Delta State University- The Weevils have matched up against the Statesmen 68 times since their first game in 1960, holding an overall record of 21-47. With a win this week, the Weevils will win three straight against the Statesmen which has not happened since they were able to put up five straight between 2011-2014. The largest margin of victory over Delta State was an 88-57 win back in 2011, with the smallest margin being an 84-82 win in 1982. UAM has combined for 4807 points over the Statesmen, averaging 70.69 points per game. This will also be the first time UAM has played Delta State with Head Coach Chad Tapp at the helm.
