Boll Weevils Drop Conference Opener to Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team traveled to Bethany, Oklahoma, on Tuesday evening to take on Southern Nazarene University in the conference opener. The Weevils came out of the game with a 67-44 loss to the Crimson Storm.

Devin Davis led Arkansas-Monticello (3-4) with 12 points. Davis hit 5-11 field goals and 2-4 shots from the free-throw line while grabbing four rebounds and a steal.

Noah Thomas was the second Weevil in double digits, posting 11 on the evening. Thomas was 4-8 on field goals and 3-3 on threes. He also contributed one assist and two blocks.

Southern Nazarene (4-1) was led by Jeremy Golson with 13 points.

The first half opened with a three from Noah Thomas, putting the Boll Weevils ahead. The teams would see back-and-forth baskets, causing five different lead changes throughout the opening twenty minutes. Southern Nazarene prevailed in the end, as both teams headed to the locker room with SNU leading 25-21.

The second 20-minute period proved to be won by Southern Nazarene, as they outscored UAM 42-23. The Storm increased their lead to a game-high 25 points and would hold the lead for the remainder of the game, eventually taking a 67-44 win over Monticello.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 13 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils return to action on Thursday, December 5, when they travel to Oklahoma Baptist University to continue Great American Conference play. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
