Boll Weevils Fall 74-56 to Bison in Oklahoma

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Arkansas-Monticello’s Boll Weevil basketball fell Thursday night inside the Noble Complex to the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University. The Boll Weevils start Great American Conference play 0-2 after a 74-56 loss to the Bison.

Seth Grandberry led Arkansas-Monticello (3-5, 0-2 GAC) with a season-high 22 points. Grandberry hit 10-18 field goals and 2-7 shots from three-point range while grabbing three steals and three rebounds.

Noah Thomas was the other Boll Weevil in double digits, posting 13 on the evening. Thomas was 4-12 on field goals, 3-9 from beyond the arc, and 2-6 from the free throw line. He also contributed three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Oklahoma Baptist (4-3, 1-0 GAC) was led by Ricky Brown with 17 points.

The Boll Weevils struggled to keep up with the Bison offense in the opening half, getting outscored 38-20. UAM was held to a 28% field goal percentage i. the period, eventually heading to the locker rooms.

The second 20-minute period proved to be an even match-up between the two teams, with both scoring 36 points throughout the 20 minutes. Although Monticello was able to match the Bison, the game would conclude with a 74-56 loss for the Boll Weevils.

Arkansas-Monticello committed 9 turnovers in the entirety of the match.

The Weevils will return to the court next Thursday, December 12, in Searcy, Arkansas when they take on the Bisons of Haring University inside the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
