Vivian Juanita Colen, 1933-2024

Vivian Juanita Colen, 91, of Warren, passed away November 30, 2024. Born July 15, 1933, to the late John and Velma Hamilton Sr.  

She was educated in the Marvel Public Schools, a high school graduate of Tate High School. After graduating from high school, she completed her B.S. degree at Arkansas A.M. & N. College (now UAPB). After college she was employed by the Warren Public Schools for 41 years, retiring in 1998. She touched the lives of many Warren youth. During her early stay in Warren, she married Eddie Colen.

Vivian joined Bethel A.M.E. Church soon after making Warren her home. She was an active member who sang in the choir and served as a Class Leader. Vivian was a big supporter of her church. One of her favorite scriptures was Matthew 7:12 the Golden Rule; ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” 

Following retirement Vivian kept active in the community; her joy came from visiting the local nursing home, playing bingo with residents and distributing Sunday School Literature to interested residents. One of her proudest moments occurred at her 90th birthday party, when the Mayor of Warren, AR proclaimed that July 15, 2023, was Vivian Colen Day.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Colen.

Vivian is survived by her siblings, Verlene Tatum, Gloradene Steveson, John Hamilton Jr., Dashiell Hamilton, Thaddeus Hamilton, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held December 14 at Bethel AME Church in Warren with Rev. Debra Cooper officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Warren. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
