Revitalize Hermitage Aims to Bring First Community Mural to Life

HERMITAGE, Ark. – Revitalize Hermitage, a local organization dedicated to restoring and beautifying the town of Hermitage, is working to create the community’s first mural. The project, designed to celebrate the rich history and culture of Hermitage, will feature Bradley County Pink Tomatoes, Hermitage Watermelons, chickens, and other iconic symbols representing the town’s agriculture and industries.

The mural, to be painted by Monticello-based artist Erin Ashcraft, will adorn the side of a tomato shed facing U.S. Highway 63. Known for her vibrant and meaningful public art, Ashcraft’s design promises to highlight the area’s deep connection to farming and its historic contributions to the region. The final mural design will be revealed as the project progresses.

Revitalize Hermitage estimates the funding needed to complete the mural at $10,000. The organization is seeking financial support from community members, businesses, and organizations to bring this vision to life. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all donations are tax-deductible. Three sponsorship levels are available:

  • Bronze (up to $100): Includes one acknowledgment post on the group’s Facebook page.
  • Silver ($101–$500): Includes two acknowledgment posts on Facebook.
  • Gold ($501 and above): Includes three acknowledgment posts on Facebook and ribbon-cutting recognition at the mural’s grand opening.

The mural aims to not only beautify the town but also serve as a point of pride, fostering unity and encouraging local engagement. According to Revitalize Hermitage’s mission, the project is a “great match” for their goals of preserving the community’s heritage while inspiring positive change.

Donations can be made via check to “Revitalize Hermitage, Inc.” Checks may be mailed to Leah McIntyre at 1776 Hwy. 278 W, Monticello, AR, or deposited at Commercial Bank.

The organization hopes to involve the community in the project as much as possible, turning the mural into a collective effort and a lasting symbol of Hermitage’s vibrant identity.
