UAM Accounting Society Offers Free Tax Assistance in Monticello and Warren This February

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The UAM Accounting Society is offering free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services to help community members file their simple tax returns at no cost. The events will be held in two locations on select Saturdays in February.

Residents in Monticello can visit the Babin Business Center at 140 University Place on Saturday, February 1, and Saturday, February 22, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

In Warren, services will be available at the Southeast Arkansas Community Action Corporation, located at 1208 North Myrtle Street, on Saturday, February 8, and Saturday, February 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Participants are reminded to bring photo identification and either a Social Security card or a 1099-SSN. Couples filing jointly must attend together, and parents filing on behalf of children should bring the children’s Social Security cards. Required tax documents include forms such as W-2, 1099-R, 1099-NEC, and 1099-INT. Only Arkansas-earned income is eligible for this service.

Taxpayers expecting refunds and wishing to receive direct deposits are encouraged to bring their financial institution’s routing and account numbers. Students should confirm whether their parents plan to claim them as dependents on their tax returns.

For those seeking an efficient and free tax filing solution, the UAM Accounting Society’s VITA program provides an excellent opportunity to ensure accurate filings.
