Candice Ann Newton, affectionately known as “Shug,” was born February 25, 1965 to the late Ossie Mae Meeks Newton. She gained her wings on March 17, 2025.
Candice joined Palestine A.M.E Church at an early age and was baptized there as well. She was a 1983 alumni of Hermitage High School. She enjoyed reading and craft related things until her health took a turn.
Candice was known for her nurturing nature. She had a special hand in the upbringing of many of her nieces and nephews. It was later in her adult years before she had her own children as she was unaware if she could bare children. Candice and Terry had two daughters.
Candice faced many health challenges over the course of her life. Even with that being true, she put the wellbeing of mother at the center front of her life. She continued to do so until her mother passed in 2014.
If you truly knew Shug, you know that she would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She was not very social in her later years, but when she endured someone, her embrace was felt. She enjoyed spending time with her grandbabies and her grand pup Oklyn the most. Being “Ganny” was her most cherished accomplishment.
Candice is proceeded in death by her mother Ossie, her siblings: George, Benjamin, Rosie, and Lottie. A nephew, Nicholas Poole, aunts and uncles, amongst other relatives and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Na-Quishia Brown (DeaVontrio) of Alabama and Tatyana Newton of Warren, bonus son Anthony Gallegos (Autumn) of Warren, Two grand daughters Olana and Oriah Brown of Alabama.
