Celebrate Archeology Day at Plum Bayou Mounds State Park This Saturday

SCOTT, Ark. – 3-24-25 – Families looking to wrap up Spring Break with a fun and educational road trip have a great opportunity this weekend. Plum Bayou Mounds Archeological State Park is hosting “Celebrate Archeology Day” this Saturday, March 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering hands-on activities and engaging exhibits for all ages.

While the park is several hours’ drive from Bradley County, the event promises to be well worth the trip—especially for parents seeking a unique, family-friendly Spring Break outing. The celebration will feature archeologists from the Arkansas Archeological Survey (ARAS), Arkansas Archeological Society (AAS), Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP), and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR), all sharing insights into the archeology of the Plum Bayou site and the broader history of Arkansas.

One of the highlights of the event is the participation of representatives from the Quapaw Nation—descendants of the people who built the Plum Bayou site. They’ll be on hand to meet attendees and offer samples of traditional foods, giving visitors a taste of Indigenous culture and heritage.

In addition to food and presentations, the event will include displays of ancient tools and weaponry, as well as artifact identification for items brought in from private collections (note: no appraisals or formal authentication will be conducted).

Celebrate Archeology Day is free to attend and promises a fun, enriching experience for the whole family. Plum Bayou Mounds Archeological State Park is located at 490 Toltec Mounds Road in Scott, Arkansas.

For Bradley County families eager to combine a road trip with hands-on learning and cultural enrichment, this Saturday’s event offers the perfect Spring Break finale.
